Population ageing is seen as a major force transforming relationships at various levels—in the health and social care system, in the economy, and in society as a whole. Accordingly, the phenomenon of ageing population is becoming a major concern for the policy makers all over the world, for both developed and developing nations, during last three decades. In India, the size of the elderly population, i.e., persons above the age of 60 years is constantly growing and even the percentage of persons above age 80 is going up over the years and this may pose mounting pressures on various socio-economic fronts including pension outlays, healthcare expenditures, fiscal discipline, savings levels etc. There is an emerging need to pay greater attention to ageing-related issues and to promote holistic policies and programmes for dealing with the ageing society. This Book consists of 15 chapters addressed these issues and problems along with care and NGOs’ support for elderly and brought suggestion plans for the government.
