    Description

New Century Publications Good Governance A Comparative Study of India and China by Mousumi Ghatak

Governance means the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented. The term good governance has come to occupy an important place in development literature. Bad governance is now regarded as the root cause of all ills in a society. Major foreign investors and international financial institutions are basing their decisions on the condition that reforms in the recipient countries are undertaken to ensure good governance. The present book is an attempt to study the principles of good governance. More importantly, it attempts a comparative study of governance in India and China—the two major economies of the world. Good governance assures that corruption is minimized, and decisions taken by the government are quick and transparent. Good governance is an ideal which is difficult to achieve in its totality. Very few countries and societies have come close to achieving good governance in its totality. However, to ensure sustainable human development, actions must be taken to work towards this ideal. According to World Population Prospects (WPP) Report, 2022, released by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) on July 11, 2022, India’s population stood at 1.412 billion (141.2 crore) as on July 1, 2022. At 1.428 billion (142.8 crore) on July 1, 2023, India’s population was marginally higher than the 1.426 billion (142.6 crore) figure for China for the same year. In other words, India will replace China as the most populous country in the world and that it will continue to have that distinction till 2100.
