This is the first research-oriented biography of GD Birla
(1894-1983) who, in spite of hailing from a rural back-ground and having no
formal education, was intensively involved in the all-round growth of the
country for more than six decedes. As a result, India today represents not only

The present volume, comprising 328 pages alongwith a select number
of rare photographs, attempts to throw light on the different aspects of Birla’s
life and work. It was he who nurtured the plant of capitalism in India till it
grew a blossoming tree. He was a key-figure in the days of Freedom Struggle.
Besides, he devoted himself whole-heartedly to the promotion of Art, Culture, Science
& Technology. His whole life is a great source of inspiration for our younger generation as
it shows us how we can make our way
