Description

American Scientific Publishers Chemistry Of Carbon Nanotubes 3 Vol Set (Hb 2008) by Basiuk V A

Contrary to all the books published on carbon nanotubes as of today, this interdisciplinary book focuses specifically on the chemistry of carbon nanotubes and related aspects. It brings together inorganic, organic, macromolecular, biological, analytical and theoretical chemists, materials scientists, spectroscopists and microscopists to share information on the methods of synthesis, purification and characterization of carbon nanotubes, modification of their chemical properties in order to expand the areas of nanotube applications in science, technology and medicine. The research topics include synthesis and purification of carbon nanotubes, formation and observation of defects, hydrothermal chemistry, sonochemistry, mechanochemistry, adsorption of gases, hydrogen storage, etc. A number of chapters focus on the chemical reactions and noncovalent interactions of carbon nanotubes with a vast variety of inorganic, organic and bioorganic compounds, in particular on fluorination, oxidation, sidewall functionalization, derivatization of oxidized defects, interaction with metal complexes, quantum dots, polymers, liquid crystals and biomolecules. In addition to that, the book provides a survey of present and future applications of carbon nanotubes and their composites in electrochemistry and analytical chemistry in general, electronics, bioapplications, etc., as well as how the chemical modification is used for dispersion, solubilization and separation of their chiral forms. A number of chapters are focused on microscopic and spectroscopic characterization of carbon nanotubes (including Raman, infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance and other techniques) and theoretical approaches (molecular mechanics, semi-empirical and density functional theory) employed to study their chemical properties. The book contains 39 state-of-the-art review chapters written by more than 90 leading experts from 20 countries. The book is divided into three volumes.
