To understand in-depth, this coursebook provides principles of phase and chemical equilibria that are defined and used in the solution of chemical engineering problems drawn from the traditional process industries, biological systems, materials processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and other industries. Topics will include an overview of bioengineering and modern biology, the introduction of cell/molecular/genetic engineering principles and the use of engineering analysis to describe living systems, starting with mass and energy balances to understand cell growth and signal transduction. Chemical engineering laboratory courses are comprised of experiments that cover most of the major subject areas of chemical engineering. The objective of Biomolecular Engineering is to illustrate the emerging field of bioengineering, which fuses molecular life sciences with engineering. So, to gain a fundamental understanding of the principles of how biological systems function, and learn about the innovative approaches that engineers take for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases, design of novel materials, devices, and processes, and in enhancing environmental health.
