Indian Journal Of Pediatrics Antibiotcs For Common Infections-2019 by Dr Rakesh Loadha
Infectious diseases continue to cause morbidity and mortality in children, despite major advances in healthcare. Antibiotics have been effective components of the armamentarium in the fight against infectious diseases, playing an important role in improving survival and preventing disabilities. Many new antibiotics have been developed and more are on the horizon. However, there is slowing down of the rate of discovery/ invention of new antibiotics. Emerging drug resistance is one of the major challenges in management of infections. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics is considered to be one of the major factors in emergence of drug resistance. Given the current scenario, rationale antibiotic therapy is the need of the hour. To promote rationale use of antibiotics, a symposium was conducted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi with an aim to provide evidence based guidelines for antibiotic therapy of common childhood infections. Proceedings of same are being published in this book. We hope that these guidelines will be useful for practicing pediatricians and residents-in-training.
