Ananda Coomaraswamy was appointed Director of the Mineralogical Survey of Ceylon in 1903. During the next four years, Coomaraswamy's scientific work was concerned in one way or another with what may be termed as the geology of Ceylon. The writings collected here document all the important findings of that time, including that of the remains of Radiolaria in the Gondwana shales of Sriperamatur near Madras.
