It explains about the structure and attributes and also briefly walks us through the modes of formation of subjects. The next unit handles the general theory of library classification. It talks about the normative principles, their applications, the fundamental categories etc. The third unit elaborates a few schemes of library classification. It introduces us to UDC, DDC, LC and explains briefly about their features and applications. Cataloguing, its structure, types, canons and laws are explained in detail in the fourth chapter. It also discusses the standard cataloguing codes like CCC and AACR. The fifth and the final unit deals with subject cataloguing and subject heading list like SLSH and LCSH. It also explains about the bibliographic control.
