    A Sanskrit Reader is a critical study of Sanskrit literature from a linguistic perspective. Selected works such as Mahabharata, Hitopadesha, Kathasaritsagara, Dharmasastra, Rigveda, Maitrayani, Grihasutras, and Brahmanas are taken by the author for literary assessment. Stories from the said texts are explained with vocabulary tables and com­mentary offered with translation for assessing its literature. This book is still taught as an introductory text in universities, and is used as a stand­ard textbook in the Sanskrit classes. About the Author Charles Rockwell Lanman (1850-1941) was an American Indologist. He graduated from Yale University. He was the president of the American Philological Association (1890-91), American Oriental Society (1897-1907), and member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1881. He translated the Karpura-Manjari of Raja-Cekhara: A Drama by the Indian Poet Rajacekhara (About 900 a.d.) into English and contributed in Whitney’s translation of the Atharva-Veda Samhitā.
